Orbis & the Circle of Success

~~The Powerful Symbolism of the Three Intersecting Circles~~

The Orbis logo is designed with a purpose in mind: it depicts three overlapping circular shapes within a circle itself. The logo, and its underlying purpose, presents a framework for the philosophy that forms the foundation for Orbis Group.

The circles form a framework that is consistent with how we organize government and society for advancement, how businesses achieve success, and of life itself.

Organizing Government and Society for Advancement
Perhaps Wallace Stegner said it best when he said that our challenge is to “create a society to match our scenery”.

Indeed, the advancement of society depends upon civilization organizing itself in a way that preserves our environment while still meeting the needs of a growing and diverse population.

Orbis Group believes that government is all about winning three constant battles:

The conservation and development of our natural resources.
The productivity and independence of our people.
The economic stability and overall livability of our built environment.

Success and sustainability has everything to do with these three circles:

  • Natural environment
  • Human environment
  • Built environment

At the center of these circles is government and society itself. The fourth necessary victory, therefore, is the efficient and effective administration of government at all levels.

Success in Business Circles
Similar to the organization of government to solve public problems, businesses have three environments essential to their private-sector success:

  • Product
  • Marketing
  • Finance

These three business disciplines are also interwoven, joined at the center again by efficient and effective administrative skills.

Orbis Group focuses on the key success factors within each of these business disciplines, and recognizes that the center must be management expertise led by a clear vision and mission statement.

Circle of Life
Stephen R. Covey identifies The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The seventh habit is what he calls “Sharpening the Saw”, or the regular balance of the four basic dimensions of life:

  • Spiritual
  • Mental
  • Physical
  • Social

Covey states that individuals and organizations that give recognition to each of these four dimensions in their mission statement provide a powerful framework for balanced renewal.

These dimensions can also be portrayed with the three intersecting circles, with the spiritual dimension forming the center—the personal value system.

Orbis Group commends this concept as the basis for individuals to exercise personal leadership, and to be contributing members to successful communities, businesses, and organizations.

Indeed, there is a powerful symbolism formed by the intersection of the three circles. The application of the Orbis logo to its mission and services allows us to come full circle: back to a realization that success comes only from seeing the whole picture in its fuller context.
